Paola Valentino obtained her Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology in 2005 and her Board Certification in Laboratory Medicine and Clinical Biochemistry in 2009 from the University of Turin.
She has over 18 years of experience in translational research and biobanking, initially as fixed-term researcher (2005-2023) at the Clinical Neurobiology Laboratory of CReSM, (University Hospital San Luigi Gonzaga, Orbassano).
In 2023 she transitioned to a permanent position as a Research Technician at the Department of Clinical and Biological Sciences (University of Turin). Since February 2025, she has been a permanent resident Biologist at the Clinical Neurobiology Lab and CReSM Biobank, University Hospital San Luigi Gonzaga.
Dr. Valentino has co-investigated and contributed to several national and international projects. She has authored more than twenty peer-reviewed publications and more than sixty conference abstracts.

Research focus

Her main interests include

  • Biobanking Activity: within CReSM Biobank, institutionalized at the University Hospital San Luigi Gonzaga in 2020 and set at NICO, she collaborated in drafting ethical/legal documents  and standard operating procedures. Initially in charge of biological material management, she later became quality manager. She is part of quality working groups of the international network of BBMRI.it/BBMRI-ERIC, as well as regional initiatives promoted by DAIRI (Alessandria). During her activity as Research Technician at DSCB (UNITO), she acquired experience in the establishment of new biobanks.
  • Translational Research focused on evaluating and validating fluid biomarkers in Multiple Sclerosis and related pathologies for biological monitoring. In recent years, she led the setup and validation of assays to detect serum Neurofilament using Simoa Technology, implementing this biomarker for monitoring disease activity, progression, and treatment response in clinical practice.
