Dr. Fernando Josa Prado is a multidisciplinary researcher with expertise in Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, and Biochemistry. He obtained his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Bristol and served as an Associate Professor at Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio and postdoc research at CSIC in Spain. His work spans neurodegenerative diseases, cancer biology, and drug discovery, with significant contributions to understanding SUMOylation pathway, microtubule dynamics and myelin biology. Dr. Josa Prado has received two prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Fellowships (ITN, and PF), and has led impactful initiatives like the IN2TEGRA project, during COVID19 pandemic. He is dedicated to mentoring young scientists and advancing science policy and outreach and diplomacy. Fernando acts as an expert for the European Commission -REA in Researchers Career Development.

Research focus

Dr. Josa Prado’s research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. His main lines include studying microtubule dynamics, oligodendrocyte precursor cells, and the SUMOylation pathway in CNS development. Key findings include the identification of microtubule-destabilizing agents with anticancer properties and insights into oligodendrocyte differentiation regulation. Currently, his interest in myelin biology drives the orientation of his research. His skills encompass molecular biology techniques, cell and tissue culture and biochemical procedures. Dr. Josa Prado is strongly involved in the aims of fostering project management, science communication and policy advocacy. He has successfully led multidisciplinary teams and “peri-scientific” initiatives, emphasizing the importance of translating knowledge towards societal benefit. Additionally, he is deeply committed to mentoring young scientists, fostering international collaborations, and engaging in public outreach activities.
