Francesca Montarolo obtained her bachelor degree in Biology and her master degree in Biomolecular Science from the University of Turin. In 2012, she discussed her PhD thesis in Experimental Neuroscience (XXIII cycle, supervised by prof. F. Tempia, University of Turin), and subsequently, she won a post-doctoral fellowship at the Neuroscience Institute Cavalieri Ottolenghi (NICO), University of Turin, Orbassano (Turin). In the last ten years she has contributed to more than thirty works published by the laboratory of which she has been first/corresponding author or included as co-author of peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Research focus

The subject of her research during PhD was the effect of neuronal electrical activity on amyloid deposition in brain and cognitive behaviour of mouse models. In 2012, Francesca Montarolo attended the laboratory of Dr. R. Furlan (Division of Neuroscience, San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy) to acquire the skills necessary to induce and analyze experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in mice.
In 2015, she attended the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience (Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Rome, Italy) supervised by Dr. R. Magliozzi to acquire the complex expertise to perform and evaluate the neuropathological features of human post-mortem brain tissues.
Actually, her research interest focus on the identification of molecular mechanisms responsible for some neurodegenerative diseases with particular attention to neuroinflammatory processes and the transcription factor NURR1.
