Two one-year positions  (“assegno di ricerca”) are available in the  Brain Development and Disease  laboratory at Neuroscience Institute Cavalieri Ottolenghi (University of Torino, Italy), starting from April 2024.

DEADLINE: January 22nd, 2024 1:00 pm CET |closed

We are looking for young motivated graduated students or post-docs with a degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, Medical Engineering or related disciplines interested in basic research.
Each  offered salary will be €19.456 €  (gross amount after deduction of the taxes of the employer). For additional benefits contact the PIs. Please, if interested, contact the tutors for an interview.

1) Development of a 3D in vitro spinal cord model for the study of axon regeneration (BIOSAME)
The project aims to develop in vitro, by means of 3D bio-printing, a complex three-dimensional model of the spinal cord, including different types of neurons and glial cells. This platform will be useful for studying how axons degenerate in the event of injury and for testing new regenerative approaches.
Suggested skills:  experience in cell cultures, immunocytochemistry, molecular analysis and microscopy.

2) Understanding and targeting CHEMOtherapy-related neuroTOXicity (CHEMOTOX)
Cancer patients life expectancy is substantially increased. CNS neurotoxicity, defined as chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment (CICI) is frequent, impairing memory, learning, etc during and after discontinuation of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy-induced PNS toxicity (CIPN) ranks among the commonest dose-limiting toxicities of several widely used anticancer drugs.
The cellular and molecular events underlying CICI and CIPN pathogenesis still remain elusive. This project is based on 3 main pillars: 1: CICI and CIPN can be reliably modeled in new preclinical models based on schedules that are more close to the clinical use 2: CICI and CIPN may have detectable morphological and functional correlates 3: CICI and CIPN can be simultaneously modulated by the administration of histone deacetylase inhibitors.
Suggested skills:  experience in animal experimentation, histology, immunocytochemistry, molecular analysis and confocal microscopy

One Postdoctoral position available at the Neuroendocrinology Lab
Research Fellowship under PRIN project -  “Developmental, Reproductive and Metabolic effects of Endocrine Disruptors (the DReaM-ED study)”

DEADLINE: January 22nd, 2024 1:00 pm CET |  closed

One-year postdoctoral position will be available from 1 st March 2024 in the Neuroendocrinology lab led by prof. Gotti and under the supervision of Dott. Marraudino at the Neuroscience Institute Cavalieri Ottolenghi (NICO), Università degli Studi di Torino, Orbassano (TO), Italy. The main and historical topic in the lab is the role of sex steroids hormone in the development and function of the Nervous System. More recently, the lab interest is focused on the behavioral and morphological effect of Endocrine Disruptors exposition in rodent models.

This position will be involved in a new project regarding the prenatal time exposition of different endocrine disruptors, single or combined, and in the subsequent postnatal evaluation of the possible effects in both sexes.

We are looking for proactive and motivated candidates with competences in manipulation of rodents, behavioral test, morphological, and molecular biology techniques (western blot, RT-PCR), team working, good oral and written English language skills.
Suggested skills:  Possible experience in vitro (primary cell culture) experiments would be appreciated.
Candidates with PhD in Neuroscience are encouraged to apply.

One-year fellowship on mitochondrial dysfunction in neural development and disease

DEADLINE: January 22nd, 2024 1:00 pm CET |  closed

Position: Assegno di Ricerca - Application deadline January 22, 2024
City: Torino Country: Italy Institution: University of Torino - Neuroscience Institute Cavalieri Ottolenghi (NICO) and Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology.

Description: We are looking for an excellent candidate to join our Adult Neurogenesis team at NICO , University of Torino, Italy. The position is funded by the PRIN: PROGETTI DI RICERCA DI RILEVANTE INTERESSE NAZIONALE – Bando 2022 – “Nr2f1-dependent regulation of Mitochondrial Function in Neural Development and Disease”. The gross salary is € 19.456/year.

The project explores the role of the transcriptional regulator Nr2f1 within neural stem/progenitor cells and neurons focusing on the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus in adult mice. Mutations in NR2F1 coding sequence cause Boonstra-Bosch-Schaff optic atrophy syndrome (BBSOAS), a rare human autosomal-dominant neurodevelopmental disorder, which is characterized by multiple clinical features, including optic nerve atrophy, intellectual disability and autistic traits. Our recent data (Bonzano et al., DOI: 10.1242/dmm.049854 ) point to an active role for NR2F1 in the mitochondrial gene expression regulatory network in neurons and support the involvement of mitochondrial dysfunction in BBSOAS. In this project, by using different genetic mouse models of the disease, we aim to demonstrate the impact of mitochondrial dysfunction in the pathophysiology of BBSOAS.

Suggested skills:  The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and goal-oriented individual with a background in neuroscience or related fields. Previous experience in neuro-morpho-anatomical methods, including immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, image analysis and/or western blotting and PCR, is highly recommended.

Ref. Interested candidates are invited to direct enquiries to Prof. Silvia De Marchis silvia.demarchis@unito.it .
Please include a motivation letter, your CV and contact details of two referees.
